The process starts with an idea and then a design cartoon. When we have the design that fits your needs and taste , we will draw a scale drawing of it for your approval.
The next step is cutting and weeding the vinyl resist . Where the vinyl is removed from the glass (weeded) is the place that the glass will be sandblasted. When carving with sand (aluminum oxide) the weeding of the vinyl will be in layers and levels. The more the piece of glass is carved , the more complex the process is and it is also more time consuming.
The final step is taking the glass into the sandblast room and sandblasting with the aluminum oxide until the desired effect is achieved. The vinyl will be removed when finished and the glass cleaned.
Final details:
DEEP CARVING:
This shower glass was very deep carved and also the top was cut with a waterjet cutter. You can see the waterjet cut whale tail and splashes.
FLAT BLAST:
This is called a flatblasted panel. It is basically a "black and white" . The 'white" is the sandblasted part and the 'black" is the clear.
BLASTING STONE:
This type of blasting requires a heavier rubber resist and a deeper blast. We have done headstones as well.
